Calif. man convicted for taking out hit on father

—A 22-year-old Sacramento man who paid hitmen to gun down his father has been convicted of first-degree murder. Vardan Abramyan was convicted Friday in Sacramento Superior Court. He faces life in prison. Abramyan described his father as a physical financial and psychological brute who had terrorized him his sisters and mother for more than a decade. He told jurors at his monthlong trial that he had no choice but to pay two hitmen $4000 to kill his father 45-year-old Norik Abramyan.

The River Cats claimed the lead two pitches into the game when Eric Patterson hit his 12th home run of the year and never looked back. Sacramento led 6-1 going into the eighth inning when Memphis rallied for a single run on a Daniel Descalso RBI-single. Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) said he hopes to “build on some positive achievements instead of just trying to hold off disaster. ” But with so much unfinished business some involving partisan disputes that have festered for years Steinberg and other leaders are already talking about not completing work on key parts of their agenda until 2010.
