That label was used to describe three fatal shootings over the course of three days in the Sacramento area last week. That may not be a record but it’s not a tourist attraction either. Wednesday evening in West Sacramento the weapon of choice was a shotgun. BM! After a mid-street shootout one man lay dead another critically wounded. West Sacramento police arrested the guy with the shotgun but the Yolo County DA released him a few hours later saying he killed in self-defense.

While the estimates of how many facilities are now open in the city range from 15 to 28 the number has clearly grown in recent months both council members and marijuana advocates say. As a result the city is considering whether it’s time to place a temporary moratorium on the facilities while stricter regulations are put in place. “It’s not that we don’t want any marijuana dispensaries” said Councilman Steve Cohn whose district covering midtown and east Sacramento has seen as many as 10 of the shops open in recent months. “What it means is we already have quite a few in the city and we want to take a timeout and see where we’re at.

The shooting happened just before 5 p. Sunday on the 3700 block of Business Drive. Sacramento police officer Tyson Butler age 35 and a six year veteran of the force was approaching a car during a traffic stop when the driver identified Monday as Jose Munoz 19 of Sacramento opened fire Sacramento police spokesman Konrad VonSchoech said.
