Sacramento Bee cuts 128 jobs 11 percent of staff

The cuts announced Monday include 29 jobs in the newsroom 8 in advertising 62 in circulation and 23 in production. Remaining employees face wage cuts of up to 6 percent and could be forced to take a week of unpaid leave. Members of the Newspaper Guild voted last week to take pay cuts to save 19 jobs. Company spokeswoman Pam Dinsmore said 30 of the employees losing their jobs Monday are union staffers.

River search continues for 3 Sacramento teens

—Three Sacramento-area teens remain missing after their SUV was pulled from the Feather River north of Sacramento last week. The teenagers left for an overnight trip to the river on Wednesday. Their sport utility vehicle was discovered in the water the next day. They have been identified by relatives and authorities as 17-year-old Aleksandr Kaplinsky 16-year-old Bohdan Lytvynyuk (BH-dan lie-TIN-ska) and 18-year-old Roman Pristupa (pris-too-PAH). Sutter County sheriff’s deputies and volunteers have been combing a six-mile stretch of the river looking for evidence.

The report shows a total of $275 million in office buildings with a price above $2. 5 million were sold during the last three months of 2008.

Report: Plane sputtered smoked before crash

—A federal report says a single-engine plane was sputtering and spewing smoke shortly after takeoff last month before making a deadly spiral to the ground near Sacramento. Two people died in the Feb. 28 crash near Rio Linda Airport just north of the state capital. The fatalities included an on-call Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy. A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board says the Mooney M20E burst into flames when it hit the ground about 300 feet from its takeoff point at the airport’s runway.
