As for the Hornets they too began their league schedule two nights ago and were tossed aside by Portland State in a 79-67 final at home. The setback was the eighth in a row and the 13th in 14 games this season for the Hornets who have only an 82-70 win against UC Davis to show for their efforts. The Eagles who will host Sacramento State on February 5th own a 21-7 advantage in the all-time series with the Hornets. Eastern Washington trailed by just four points at the break versus the Lumberjacks on Friday but then the Eagles tanked in the second half as they shot a mere 21. 7 percent from the floor and allowed the home team to convert a sizzling 62. 5 percent from the field in the frame. Benny Valentine scored a team-best 13 points cleared five rebounds handed out three assists and posted three steals but he shot just 4-of-15 from the field and turned the ball over five times as well.

Governor’s panel says Calif must build water canal

In a report issued Friday the Delta Vision Committee said California should begin building a canal to divert water from the Sacramento River as soon as 2011. It is one of the most controversial strategies included in a final report released by the governor’s office after more than two years of hearings. The report mirrors an earlier draft released by the governor’s cabinet-level panel last month. Advocates have said a canal would reroute water used by two-thirds of Californians away from the fragile delta which is susceptible to earthquakes levee breaks and flooding.

Benicia girls claim consolation title in Sacramento

Several of the biggest foundations have established offices in Sacramento and staffed them with experienced former advisors to lawmakers with the aim of educating legislators to embrace their ideas.
