Sacramento gas prices top Bay Area Los Angeles
Sacramento Bee – Jun 7, 2008
07 2008| Page 1D Sacramentans and their Central Valley cousins along Highway 99 have reason to feel stressed at the gas pump: They’re paying Bay Area gas prices – and for the moment more than drivers in Los Angeles. What gives? For starters say analysts there’s always a bit of mystery to gasoline pricing – it’s based among other things on a mixture of crude oil prices how efficiently the refineries are running and the level of competition what experts call “nozzle count. ” Yet there’s no mystery in the numbers lately. The dependable pattern of cheaper gasoline in the Valley has vanished at least temporarily. According to AAA the average price of a gallon of self-serve unleaded climbed to $4.

With 11000 of those ballots now tallied Johnson’s lead has narrowed slightly. He has 46 percent of the vote and Fargo 40 percent according to numbers released Friday by the Sacramento County registrar of voters.

07 2008| Page 1D A new spree of “smash-and-grab” vehicle burglaries is hitting the Garden Highway’s dining spots. But just how big a wave is a matter of dispute. “It’s an epidemic” says Sacramento lobbyist Mark Timmerman who was recently victimized for the second time in the past 12 months. This time thieves broke into his car which was parked on the levee road near Chevys restaurant and stole his laptop computer. “This is such a great part of town.

Katie Smith scores 30 points Shock win sixth straight
USA Today – Jun 7, 2008
“That’s what they’ve built that team on. They are playing well right now they are the real deal. Nicole Powell scored 17 points and Crystal Kelly had 10 for Sacramento (2-4) which shot 63 percent in the first half when it led by four points. But minus injured point guard Ticha Penicheiro all game and with limited duty from Adrian Williams-Strong another injured starter the Monarchs were outplayed badly in the second half. “I knew they had been off a while (a week) and were mouthy talking about how they wanted to beat the Shock” Laimbeer said. “We put them out two years ago in the finals I know that sticks with them. We simply played better defense in the second half that’s all we talked about at halftime… You saw how good they re 54 points tonight. Playing tough inside at the offensive end and forcing turnovers on defense the Monarchs outscored Detroit 27-19 in the second quarter to take a 48-44 lead at the half. An 11-0 run put Sacramento ahead midway through the period. “We stopped turning the ball over in the second half which stopped their easy baskets” Smith said. “We also limited their penetration and rebounded a lot better than in the first half. Smith got the Shock going early. She hit a pair of 3s and scored 15 points helping Detroit take a 25-21 lead after one quarter.
